    Returning to OZ

Hi all, returning to Oz from 12 years in the UK. Want to start looking for a Nissan Patrol when we return. Not much of a budget so used at around $28000 is about it. I've seen many Patrols listed on Carsales website but I am totally out of the loop as far as whats good or bad about various models. Defo want diesel .. 3 litre .. diff locks .. aircon .. so now give me advice on what to stay away from (model wise) and what to look for (mechanically or other) .. any help would be fantastic :-)

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Thats encouraging. There are quite a few 3 litre diesels for sale that have done less than 100 000 kms. There are quite a few automatics as well. Very unsure of them as ive never had an auto 4x4. Will be doing mostly beach and bush driving .. anybody got any comments about the automatics? I also need to know about any issues i can look out for when shopping around .. thanks for the info .. keep it coming

It definitely seems that for around $28000 that I can pick up a GU series 8 .. but there are also a number of ST Y61's for around £30000 that have satnav and a few other features .. albeit with a few more k's on the clock (around 130 000km's) .. is there any difference mechanically between the series 8 and the Y61's? Would it be worth me trying to push for the newer model or would $2000 saved buy me an aftermarket satnav to fit?

    Series 8 GU "IS" a Y61. So it's a GU Y61 Series 8 Patrol. CRD 3 Litre motor.
