Post trip reconfiguring our family wagons roof again after a recent shared awesome Tasmania West Coast Adventure!
AB (Administrator Bossman) has kindly today gifted us a much much lighter weight aluminium rack than our steel cheapo supercentre heavy paddock version used on Mrs MB’s GU over the years.

Was the touring weight somewhat severe off-angles getting out of Balfour Track to the coast on 16psi that really makes one consider every needed kilogram leaning atop :-)

Not sure whether you meant it Ben mate but does appear your Expedition Boxes and Rhino Racks are an aluminium support plank match made in heaven

Are really keen for some semi-permanent tie-down advice too Ben mate as I’m currently thinking of leaving the boxes on top all next trip and having those lightweight type clothes bags inside each so we can just unlatch the lids only and yoink out the girls kits each night, and or easily access their undies after kissing track side banks :-)

Good one @MB. I have previously used both rope and ratchet straps to good effect for semi-permanent mountings ontop. If using a ratchet strap, simply feed it through the tie-down points and run it underneath the lip of the box to the other side, out through the tie down point and back to the roof rack. I did a dodgy YouTube clip on it a while back, see below. Just pull the strap out of the ratchet so you can feed it through, then put it back into the ratchet once it is out the otherside. Two ratchet straps per box work well. You might even be able to use one if you had a longer version and mucked around a bit with it but I never tried that. Just don't over tighten the ratchet as it could pull down too hard and pull the box down away from the seal. I don't think it would, but I'd be cautious.

Those types of roof racks sometimes don't offer much in the way of tie-down points though so you may have to make something work. I went with a mesh flat deck on my own rack so I never had to look for a hooking point.

Between Patrols ATM. Had a beaut GU with 6.5 Chev TD. Next is a GU ute with a 4.5 litre Cummins conversion and a camper on the back.

    Hey Guys,

We are going to be going to the Brisbane 4X4 show if anyone is around and wanting to meet up. I know lots of Forum tag names but would love to say g'day if you are a Brisbaneite and going to the show.

Are you going to be at the one in Melbourne in August Ben? I'd definitely be interested in going to that!

Would love to, but not sure we can make Melbourne this year. Super costly exercise.

That and all the chatter on remote desert trips stimulated by @10G has me thinking I need to nick off and go do the Madigan line around then.

Well, I reckon the boys designed these boxes to fit my tray perfectly.
Couldn’t ask for a better fit

Anyway, I got rid of one big box and replaced with 3 of these..much more flexibility and one will double up as a step for Fiona to fetch me beers without winging she can’t reach the fridge...no excuses anymore

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
