"Teflon tape"? It's not what you may think.
Some trivia - Did you know?
• Teflon® isn’t a thing — it’s a brand! A world famous brand that’s owned by DuPont.
• The DuPont™ Teflon® brand identifies products that are made with DuPont raw material(s), like fluoropolymer or industrial coatings. Over time, the tape has been mistakenly referred to as "Teflon tape". We thought it was important to let you know that.
• If somebody offers to sell you “Teflon tape” when you need plumber tape (or thread seal tape), they are wrong, mistaken or — worse — trying to mislead you. To help you make an informed purchase, you should be aware that no plumber tape is authorized by DuPont to be sold as “Teflon tape”.
• DuPont has brought thousands of meaningful innovations to people for more than 200 years, including many Teflon® branded products for consumers. Plumber tape is not one of these innovations.
Teflon® is a registered trademark of DuPont.

Enjoying the trips
Aside from naming or branding is plumbers tape different to what might be used on a oil line?
Are there specific uses for similar "looking" products?
Cheers

You can get cold/hot water tape that you can use with Mirror paste . general plumbing
You can also get gas tape which is thicker.
Years ago I asked a mate to get some Teflon tape and he asked if I'd cut him a blank cheque, lol
I then flicked him 50 cents and said get two rolls.
Its just what we have known it as.
Remember to scratch the thread to help the tape stay in place.

I find the pastes are alright but dont work well when either a) its a big coarse thread b) when you cant clean it totally free of oil. Tape works better when trying to seal an oil soaked thread.
My opinion of course.
