Location to install Redarc BCDC 1225D

I've read as much as i can find on where to install the BCDC charger under the bonnet, and while I go out to the Patrol to look at suggested locations, none appear available to me.

I cannot install between the radiator and the grill as there is an aux fan there, I can't install near bonnet hinge due to piping, and there appears to be no suitable location to install the unit without it protruding too high and possible stopping the bonnet from closing.

It is without doubt I will need some form of bracket if mounting under the bonnet, as I am trying to avoid thinking about putting the unit into the cab.

I'm sure this is a problem experienced and solved by others before, but any suggestions would be appreciated, with pics would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers and thanks

You can make up a bracket by bending a bit of metal or ally like i've done here. Putting the unit on the side.

Hodge - thanks for that. I take it the bracket goes across to body of the vehicle which has the two fuse holders on top? Regards

Yes. It's a bit of sheet metal bend into L shape. And screwed onto the side of the body and to the bottom. I bolted the Redarc to the side of the bracket and fuses sit on top.
There is also room underneath the bracket to hide the bulk of the wiring etc...

I have since removed the whole battery assembly from there. And it is now mounted at the rear as the Redarc was copping the heat off the turbo good and proper.
    (photo is unfinished product)

Thanks mate. It looks promising. I'll need to re-route the cabling which runs to the back for the van, but that is pretty simple. Cheers

I mounted mine behind the grill near the drivers side headlight. (I'm at work so sorry,no images) Put it there so it gets some cool air past it as they get very hot.
    Cheers

They're meant to be a sealed unit, I'm sure it would be listed on their website. My old one was sealed with a hard rubber compound of some sort but suffered from overheating and fried the circuitry in it. You need to make sure you use the right gauge wire too.

    IP details from Redarc

The silicon elastomer that is used to cover the entire electronic PCB internally protects against moisture, dust, vibration and also assist with the heat dissipation of the unit.

The unit has been designed for installations in under-bonnet applications, battery boxes, chassis rails (to name a few). Although not testing to an certified IP rating, it would likely pass IP65 (high pressure water spray) and IP67 (water submersion). Many applications of this product have been in deep creek crossings and across tough terrain. The unit performs excellent under these conditions.
