Geez the difference would be less than quater a millimetre Chris. Considering the Gasket is a bee's dick over that. I doubt that would make a difference. But who knows for sure.

I agree. The gasket is a designated spacer of known thickness, where the silicone is anyones guess and if too thin may not seal for long anyway.

Can see the point, however the gasket is a surface seal, clamped with uniform pressure - or it should be if the thing is torqued correctly, so in theory, the pitting would be covered unless it goes to the edges of the hole and you have a channel from inside to outside, then a liquid seal would be better. Solid gaskets are not designed to deform as such, more cater for surface roughness values at best - I know sounds contradictory, but they will deform on a smallish level, not fill up depressions.

Replaced the filter in my ProVent catch can. Old one looked OK for 80,000klms, the recommended replacement frequency.

Disconnected the start battery and sprayed tho MAF.
All seems to be OK now, happy with the outcome

I swap mine out at every 5k service and wash the old one ready for the next change. They obviously last longer than 5k but I just made it part of my service so I dont forget about it.
