    Sandpit in the air box

So last week I brought my “new” 2000 TD42 gu and have been slowly going about making her my own. Anyway, yesterday I thought I’d just check the air filter to see if that had been replaced by the dealer when they did the service before I picked it up....... ahh nope! There was enough shit and sand in there to start a sandpit for the kids! On both sides of the filter too
Unbelievable! This car looks to have been meticulously looked after. I mean it’s in better condition than my 2013 SR5 I traded in for her. The engine bay and underbody are in showroom condition(that won’t last )
I’ve since vacuumed and thoroughly cleaned the air box out and replaced the filter and my god does she breathe well now. it’s like driving a new car. (It drove bloody well in the first place)
I guess I’m wondering is there anything I should get checked or look out for as far as what may have been sucked up through the turbo?
I’m spewing I didn’t check the filter before I brought it as I would have been able to talk them down another grand or two.... actually I probably wouldn’t of brought it!
Here’s hoping I caught it before it was to late but if anyone has any advice I’m all ears.

That’s what I’m hoping for.. but the was just as much crap on the inside of the filter than the outside.
The old girl is running and sounding great so I guess that’s a positive 👍

If it doesn't blow blue smoke, or there are no oil leaks due to excessive blow-by you may have dodged a bullet. A compression check will tell you if the engine has been dusted.

If the readings are low and you squirt a little bit of oil in the cylinder and the reading rises significantly, the rings are stuffed.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

Does it have a snorkel? They usually prevent that sort of thing happening.

That's what my airbox was like when I did the conversion. Wasn't a huge amount but there was a bit too make me think holy c. . p oh bugger ! ! The motor came out of a car that rolled so assumed maybe on the beach or something. Anyway motor drove well didn't use oil and compression good. Turbine blades on turbo did look a little crappy tho but can't be sure what from or how but was still working OK. I have currently stripped the motor down to an extent and for the kays everything is looking pretty good (360thou).

If she's running well just look after it and should be right hopefully, is a bit unnerving tho. .

It doesn’t seem to blow any smoke apart from a small amount (very) of black smoke when you give it the berries.
But I’ll look into getting a compression test done for sure.. cheers.

Haha 🤣 that’s exactly how I felt when I opened it.. “holly cr@p, oh bugger!”
Fingers crossed 🤞 I got it in time. I’ll find out sooner or later I guess.
