Installed the brown davis 78L belly tank today, after @AM @MB kindly tried without success last weekend. Glad we did the trial run though as second time around, with one person, wasn't easy but a few tricks remembered. For those doing this on a GQ, you must grind off the bolt projecting thru the floor that hits the centre of the tank, plus take 5mm off one of the drivers seat anchor bolts as this hits the tank also. The two small diameter brake lines on the drivers side near the rear diff need to be bent upwards about 50mm - all achievable if you are careful. If you dont do this the tank will not go in. Lastly, the centre rear tank mount is directly above the driveshaft. If you don't want to remove it, make sure you have a couple of long drill bits, circa 300mm or 250mm would be best so you clear the diff housing and the exhaust - 3" exhaust is a pain! My tank was a gift, and from an early petrol model. It had the petrol expansion tank. This was removed to provide more clearance as its not required on a diesel. You need to weld up the expansion tank vent hole - 6mm, easy done. Twin fillers in place and hoses connected except the tank fill hose which is going to be a nightmare - waiting on rubber 90 deg bends to arrive then going to find a route that works from filler to tank - standard pipes are simply too tight to fit, although you can bet that BD would simply walk up and throw them in! Lastly, I ground 6mm off the rear control arm bracket to provide greater clearance for the tank, its like a bum in a bucket fit, 10mm off tailshaft clearance. Job took 5 hours in the driveway, and 8 beers - full strength AB.

Yeah, Physio is going to tear strips for more stupidity, but its done now. Cruising to sort out the hose path - think I will buy a meter of 44mm exhaust pipe this week to cover all bases. Thanks guys.

I suspect Mark that BD would probably throw in the towel on this one. You have seen the obstacles and its far from 'greenfield'. I am happy where I have landed, physio or not.
