    H plates in Vic

My Patrol is getting closer to be eligible for H plates built date is 11/97 and compliance plate is 12/97. Does this mean that I have to wait till November next year for it to be eligible? Do they go by month and year or just year?

That's only if they don't change it to 30 years....

Not sure JC, but I think you also have to be a member of a registered car club. That was the case anyway when I had a heritage-plated motorbike.

If you end up getting the plates, don't forget to mention it to your insurer. I wasn't aware of the huge insurance discount available to heritage plated vehicles until after a couple of years of having them. Went down to something like $70/year or something crazy like that! That was going back a few years though.

Yeah, I know about the insurance, its because vehicle is not on the road as much and therefore less likely to be involved in an accident.

Had a chat to the club president and he confirmed that it's month and year oh well let's hope that the Vic government doesn't follow NSW and Qld and change to 30 years....

If the permit scheme is still the same as a few years ago, there's an option of either a 45 day permit or a 90 day permit. Would that be enough days for you?

Also don't be tempted to not fill in your log. Being caught without the log pre-filled for that day and you'll be done for unregistered vehicle (big bux!) and put your club in the bad books big time.

Also if you're going interstate, check that the state(s) you're visiting recognise the Vic club permit scheme. Not all states recognise it (WA from memory and maybe more). You can't travel in those states legally.

Days won't be a problem, I'll need a cheap runabout. I'll be weighing up the difference in running and ongoing cost to see if it's worth it.

I will do the log book right. I think this is part of the reason why they want to extend it to 30 years and I know to the club, it I screw it up they won't be impressed.

I'll find out about interstate travel and post it here.
