Council spent $300 thousand plus on the road just up from my place a few years back to get rid of humps in the road caused by tree roots and they have now put up "Rough Surface" signs because the tree roots have pushed the road up again .
Not a road builder but knew at the time that only digging down less than 200mm would never fix the cause of the problem .

A lot of work has been done down my way, but there is a hell of a lot to fix, so enjoy your potholes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5qIf_4vL7o
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

Wow. I reckon vic roads is blowing its budget putting up stupid barriers everywhere on the sides of the roads to help idiots that can't stay on the road instead of just fixing the bit you drive on. Really noticed a difference after being in WA & SA for a bit then coming back across the border. . . Portland looks schocking tho that's 3rd world standard, pretty bad . . .

If you get a speeding fine for less than 10km/h and haven't had another within 12months you can write a letter and ask for an official warning. Doesn't cost a thing. I've done it multiple times for myself and my wife.

Rossco, its about containing the vehicle within the road corridor, and on separated carriageways keeping the vehicles from head on collisions. Nothing to do with road quality. The advert that Vicroad ran recently shows how effective they are, make a mess of the car but pull it up for sure. Someone has to survey the areas to determine where the risk of greatest carnage might take place, and then install a barrier to that location. Pretty hard thing to do. I have not been down Portland way for ages, but from memory could see how this campaign might end up blowing out for sure.
