I am a radio technician and would recommend Icom IC455.

I have had problems with GME in the past but never with Icom.

I have only delt with GME and Icom so not the bast at giving advice on cheaper brands. Our work mainly sells commercial radios to mining and emergency services so very different to the CB market. Sorry I can't be more help.
