There is one more major part of that float I would be thoroughly inspecting and that is the floor structure. Check all steel is in good nick and there is no rot in the timber. The old horses have tiny feet for their weight so ground pressure is high. The last thing you want to happen is for one to go through the floor.

    Floats are like builders trailers, no maintenance is usually done until it breaks.

    The MOST Sickening story I’ve personally ever heard of was an old pissy/soggy wooden floor (un-maintenancd) float that allowed its Beaut Beasts to pierce through on a Highway Savagely grinding down to their poor Nubs prior to Police being hours later to relieve PAIN and Terminally END IT
