Selection problem when cold
Greetings
My 1983 2.8 litre automatic Patrol has trouble getting into gear when cold.
I put it in reverse and off it goes, never an issue.
I try to put it in Drive and sometimes it doesn't engage or does engage but stays in first. If stuck in first I simply manually shift to 2nd and it seems to sort itself out. If it does engage drive I put it into first or second and sooner or later it engages and off we go.
Is this an electrical fault?
Regards
Alan

Legendary
I am more inclined to think it may be a valve or fluid problem. Have you checked the fluid level and quality. Might just need a flush and new trans fluid, or even just a top up.

Thanks for your reply.
I've check the transmission fluid. The oil is right up to the mark (when running after going through the gears) and the oil looks very nice and clean, pink and clear.
