GQ Clutch problems Troubleshooting
Hi guys,
Thought id ask to see if anyones had a similar issue with their clutch and what they did to fix it.
My tb42e GQ's clutch works fine when the engine is cold, only when the car is at operating temp do i have issues.
Once the car gets up to temp the clutch slips so bad to the point where there is no drive at all.
I've bled the clutch, and adjusted the master cylinder pushrod but still have the same problem.
Any gurus on here with some tips for me? My car has a clutch booster too, not sure if that could be part of the problem.
TIA

How close does the clutch line run to the exhaust?

Patrol God
There should be a heat shield protecting the line and slave cylinder.

yeah a heat shield should be there, mine broke so I wrapped the exhaust. mine has no issue with the wrapped exhaust.
the bolts holding my slave were too long not to have a shield and hold the slave, so I needed some washers..

G`Day mate. Check the master and booster, with the engine running or preferable take it for a dire untill the problem happens, leave the engine running and crack the pipe at the master if fluid squirts out and the clutch comes back to normal the problem is either the master or in the booster.

Hey mate, just tried this method and BINGO! Cracked the line at the master, a bunch of fluid came out like it was under pressure and then the clutch came back to normal!
Basically I should look at replacing the master and or booster

Sorry mate, but it`s all to do with clearances, OK could be in the Master with slightly swollen cups(due to incorrect fluid, could be push rod clearance, booster to master, could also be internal clearance of booster internals, there are a couple of incremental clearances in the booster. and finally make sure you have free travel at the pedal stop. Hope this is of some help.
