The Race to the North Has Started
It must be cold down south already.
I was driving home south from Mackay on Monday 23rd April and was so glad it was south and not north. The number of caravans, motor homes, camper trailers etc going north was almost unbelievable. Pity the truck drivers who had deadlines to meet.
At the end of the day, all you have is yourself and all you need is your friends (and in our case our Patrol)

I still have 3 weeks before I head that way, not hitting the coast until Cairns so hopefully miss a lot of the traffic.

I think everyone has some sort of way of getting away and traveling this country. lots of people like to get away and enjoy the northern climate in caravans or trailers.
It’s been happening for a long time and will continue for a long time.
I hope the truck drivers are good and smart enough to be able to overtake them safely if need be, and I’m sure most are.
I am not sure if you are suggesting all caravaners, trailer drivers are not allowed on the road because the truck drivers have a deadline or agenda to meet, but it comes across you are not happy with them being on the road.
Most of them truckers will end up on the road themselves with a van on the back when they can.

Everyone just needs to respect each other and it will work.
Pull up when you can or slow down on overtaking lanes and communicate.
It all works if respect is given on all sides.

After going round oz I've seen dickheads from both sides but by far and away the most were caravans and I also took note of brand of van and tug , the worst drivers were pulling a Jayco with a Toyota and I did have a photo somewhere I'll try to dig up as an example .
99.9% of truckies that came up behind me I identified myself told them to pull out when they could and when beside me I will back off to let them fly past , a lot of them thought I must have been a truckies but just said no commonsense and all year to get where I'm going unlike you poor buggers on the clock .
Caravan convoys should be pulled up by the Cops then fined the shit out of and re-educated to keep far enough apart to allow a B double in plus a safety margin .

For sure, everyone has a radio and more communication would help a lot

I think caravaners should all be forced to have a CB and have the channel they sit on and their name printed on the back of their caravan, would make it safer for all.

One thing I absolutely cannot stand is having the uhf on when on the blacktop. Easy fix tho, I tow at 100kmh. Simples.
What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal??
