IIRC the Narva brand 'Carling' style fit the GU cutouts... and... you are correct in that the genuine Carling do not fit without a teensy bit of surgery.
I can't be 100% certain on the Narva but I'm pretty certain that is the brand I had in my prev GU centre console.
Whatever brand, they are slightly smaller on the surround and also the retaining clips are slightly different
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Nah mate I used the Narva ones in the console. Exact same size as the Carling switch I pulled out...

Fair enuf... I'll try and find out what ones I used prev.
All I use in my current rig are Carlings as they are in my 'outback' overhead console

OK... my bad... and Mudski is on the money
Went ratting thru my 'leftovers' box from my prev 'U and the switches I was thinking of that dropped straight in were Narva but not the Carling clone, just a boggy old poverty pack style rocker which I later did replace with Carlings after some minor surgery wit the Dremel.
Carlings shit me when the globe blows as it is a PIA to try and replace.

They are illegal under ADR's, same theory as wing mirrors, rod holders and lights on top of Bullbars
If you hit a pedestrian and they come thru the windscreen they may put an eye out on the toggle
