Patrol Electronic Goodies/ Gadget
Hi all, I'm thinking of making some electronics modules for my mates GQs and seeing if anyone would be interested in them.
First one replaces the GQ clock with a smart display which will have the following features:
- Volt meter
- EGT Gauge
- Inclinometer (how steep is this hill)
- Altitude meter (how high is this hill)
- Compass
- 2nd battery meter
- Internal & external temperature
- and of course clock & date
The display will look something like this:

Second gadget will be a body control module for the GU patrol (which I own) The Y61 patrol is well behide any other 4WD (land cruiser, Pajero, etc.) in electronic smarts/ gadgets.
Was thinking of a unit that could:
- Follow me home Headlights
- Auto headlights with auto off
- Speedo correction
- Torque converter lock-up controller
- Radio timer
- Interior light controller fade, turn off on lock, etc.
- Rear wiper controller, put vehicle in reverse auto wipers
- Power window controller, electric windows work until doors lock
- Aux controller i.e for controller lights, fan, etc.*
And maybe a display where the top pocket is (above the radio) with the same features as the GQ clock
Your comments, thoughts, feedback most welcome...

Ok Flex, I am interested in the GQ model, more because I probably have all these things indicated across about 6 different instruments so if you can do this in one, and it replaces the dash clock I don't have, might be a good thing. Cost estimate?

I'm interested in the GQ unit for everything except the EGT gauge.
Is it worth adding that feature? Most people would already have a gauge installed and I don't think it's a great position for something that we look at as often as our EGT gauge.

Thats true, I would not need the egt either, as I run dual egt's anyway. Might be a standard chip format that you select the options you want?

Maybe the display could be programmable so you can cycle it to display what parameters you need and the rest can be looked at by pushing buttons when the vehicle is stopped. The last thing you want is another gadget to fiddle with and distract you while you are driving.

Thanks for all your reply's
Good feedback that EGT isn't really needed. What other features would you guys would want? I was also thinking of:
- 2nd Battery AH reading with percent so you know the capacity of the battery
- Simple trip computer
Or any other electronic control or display info?

Only trouble I'm thinking of with so much stuff crammed into it, is how many inputs is it going to need? The list you have above looks like it would only need about 4 inputs which is fine. Would it have a built in inclinometer, compass etc or would they need inputs from another device as well?

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

It would have in-built compass, inclinometer, etc.
Inputs would be:
- 2nd Battery
- External temp
- Power
I'm thinking of two ways of mounting the unit:
1. Replace the circuit board inside the clock, this will have a more of a factory look, however the screen would be smaller. Could be difficult for some people.
2. Replace the whole clock with a unit. Easier to install. Bigger screen. May not look as good, but i'll try
