I have not seen an Oil Temp gauge on the market for several years
apart for those who have an Auto, and want the temp of that
possibly put in a fitting in the sump for the probe to screw into.............
most opt for an Oil Pressure gauge, which you can fit the probe next to the oil filter,
but you cannot put a temp probe there, as there is a water jacket that goes around it, and you wont get an accurate oil temp reading

The best spot would be the sump somewhere. There's a thread here about it but I can't find it.

yep,
if you can work out a position so that the probe is in the oil (nearer the bottom the better)
the sump is the only place you will get an accurate reading

Theres a oil filter sandwich plate available with two ports, fits under a filter, I use one for oil temp, other for oil P
Temps here are direct out of engine and very hot, regulalrly 100-110 deg C

indeedy. I've got one sat on my shelf due to be fitted to the ute. It's got 4 ports from memory. It's a very purty purple colour
