Long brake pedal
Hi Guys n Gals
I have an 04 3l 5sp ,I also have a long brake pedal 'which is bloody annoying'.
I have had the brake fluid replaced a little better still pedal goes a long way b4 any resistance ,Brakes work great for a 2.5 tonne bus
With 315/65/16 tyres .
I have measured the pedal height 175mm from the carpet clutch is 185mm .
Not much fum when off road going up a steep climb n you jump on the brakes n the pedal almost hits the floor .
What could be the issue ??
Any help will be Great .

Bleed all the bleed points while replacing brake oil with brand new oil.

probably find as you are braking the hoses are expanding instead ,try changing to new or braded lines

Did you bleed the LPV? Most people miss it when bleeding brakes.

Ok I had the fluid replaced by my mechanic and I asked him to bleed the LPV "he said there was a bit of black shit in it "'
I am more concerned about how high the pedal sits off the floor ,approx 10 mm less than the clutch pedal and the fact it is not a hard pedal "quite soft"
The brakes do work it's just there is quite a bit of travel .

OK - I had this very same problem. When I bled the LPV it also had "black shit" in it which indicated it had not been bled for a very long time (if ever) and as a result the piston had seized, trapped air in the chamber, was not working properly and caused the brake pedal to travel further than it should.
Before I found this I took the Patrol to "brake specialists" that told me the LPV was OK and came up with other wonderful answers that cost me a lot of money but did not fix the problem.
In the end I did it myself. I removed the LPV and found the problem, replaced the LPV (with a used one from a relatively new wrecked Patrol),and the problem was fixed. That was a few years ago and the brakes have been perfect since.
This may not be the same issue as you have - but the symptoms are the same and all you have to lose is a couple of hours and some skin off your knuckles to take the LPV out and check it. (I found that swearing a lot and beer helps!)
