I've never had it quoted but my hunch is it's a capacitor or something minor that someone's going to screw me on
If you have released the blue smoke it's probably out of my league.

Checked back on a forum last week to find some new info & a link to a company that could supply the part.
Ordered it last week & it turned up today. A bit of soldering & the radio is up & running again. Seems it is a common problem with some Uniden & GME uhf`s. The radio will show a full signal bar on all channels but will transmit ok. Found a technician 6 months ago that would repair it for $80, Uniden charge about the same.
Part cost $3, took half an hour to repair, got to happy about that!.

Good Job. .. Recently, I was asked by Dad to have a go at repairing a Digitech UHF that he reversed polarity on. I thought it might be the protection diode.
Found that manufacturer had never soldered one in, so the chips were fried, (pardon the pun).

Yeah cool, brings me back to the days we used to do circuit board level repairs as an apprentice.
It was good fun troubleshooting faults. Used to remove 200 pin surfice mount chips at that stage but now we tend to throw shit away.
Not many things left that are able to be fixed. Single layer boards are still fixable if you give it a shot like you did , and well done!
Should be more of it.
