2010 Patrol petrol gas 5 sp auto engine light on catalytic converter code
Hi there
I have 85000 km on the clock and for the last 18 months the engine warning light came on , went off, but now it is on all the time. When I have the car serviced at 63000 km the feedback was the error code was catalytic converter. Since that time the car is not idling as smoothly as it used to but still runs very well at higher rev. I believe the car has 3 CC , 2 small ones near the manifolds and 1 larger
I was thinking of getting it serviced and tuned, but wonder if I should replace the catalytic converters, Any aftermarket brand that are well regarded. Another thought was I could add extractors get rid of the 2 small cc and just have one main CC ?
Are extractors a benefit to performance and economy. I do not wish to make the exhaust noise much more noticeable
Any suggestions?
have a good day
Kevin

You could try knocking the guts out of the cats to see if that is the problem

I wouldnt imagine the cats being the issue. IMO it would probably the O2 sensors which tend to fry when on gas.
I have a series 3 so only have the 1 cat and 2x O2 sensors. The later models have 4x O2 sensors. From memory the guys who have installed the extractors on the later models have used O2 sensor eliminators on the rear ones and fitted just the one larger cat.
