Hi GQtdauto, You can buy a seal kit and replace the 'o' ring on the mixture adjusting screw and the gasket on the top lid. If that dosn't fix the leak, the pump will need to be taken out and sent to a specialist. Hope my thoughts help. Regards Kiwibob.
It's the top lid o ring that's gone , I do have a complete seal kit and reckon I can do the top three it's just a bit of work removing the intake manifold so I can get at the flat screws etc , but if replacing all gasket/ o rings is a specialist job only maybe I better go that way .
I found some info and photos etc but can't find a parts diagram so won't attempt it unless positive I can do it without stuffing it up .
Gday mate.
Is it a td42?
If so you won't need to take the manifold off to do the seals.
Yes it is a td4.2 , but unless the manifold comes off you can't get to the slotted screws holding the head of the injector pump and being loctite in only way to remove them is an impact screw driver and the manifold is definitely in the way .
If they used hex head bolts on all 8 fixings I could remove the top easy but slotted screws not possible unless I remove the pump .
Unless you have some other way I'm open to suggestions.
I paid a diesel shop to do my top cover seal.
Cost me $230 all up.
I dont know what they used to undo the screws but the manifold definately didnt have to come off.
Perhaps you could give a diesel shop a quick call and ask em.
Good luck with it mate
Thanks for that , will give my regular mechanic a call and see if he knows of someone in this area .
No worries mate.
Yeah manifold doesnt have to come off to do top cover seal. Also replace the throttle shaft seal while you are there. The timer piston covers are easy to do on the side of the pump.
What you can do to make your life easier is mark the pumps location undo the retaining nuts and bolts and roll the pump away from the engine. This will help with access a little then just line the mark up after and tighten the fasteners.
It must be expensive in Hobart as the last time I had a shop do it up here it was $100. This being their minimum charge as the seals are worth about $4.
