Hi amte, i have changed your title to see if we can help you further. sorry i have never pulled a gearbox out of a TD42.
The manual is just a PDF. you should have no trouble. there are a number of versions and updates, try to download again or a different one see if that helps.
Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!!
....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Yeah good luck on removing the box on the floor. I did it, once. Took three of us and a bit of massaging of the floor on the drivers side was required. If done on a hoist with a trans jack the box can be twisted and it will come out easily enough.

oh well sounds like I have found he hard way to do it ! AGAIN .! oh poo
have got it on a transmission Jack but I cant roll it around so will try putting a hoist through the floor .
think I might take an engine mount off on the drivers side it might also help .
The only thing I have going for the whole job is I can grind the flywheel myself .
I am driving my 1960 Beetle around what Fun it runs on the smell of an oily rag to and from work only $25.00 /week

No no, removal is not really that hard once you know what to do.
1. Undo all associated bolts including tail shaft.
2. Unbolt and remove the shift cover from the top of the box. No chance with it on. If I recall I drilled 2 holes to make the job easier and put plugs in them.
3. Remove cross member.
4. Loosen engine mounts so it can tilt.
5. Motor needs to stay in place. Just tilt it. If it is against the fire wall you wont be able separate the bell housing from the motor.
6. Front end needs to be up as there is not enough room under the vehicle for the box to drop out. I use a fork lift.
7. Slide and turn the box as you go.....swear a lot. that b^&tch is heavy.
8. Make sure you do not try and catch it...I tried and hurt myself. So I suggest a box jack or a load of soft wood under it incase it falls.
I hope that helps buddy. I have done it and it is a pain in the arse.
I have some pics here:

I used a engine crane in the passenger door and through the trans tunnel with a sling around the gearbox. Whilst it was still a bitch to remove, it was easier with the sling, than having it hard mounted on a jack.

I believe once read a guru on here recommended using 2 x or maybe 3 chunky ratchet straps spanning the chassis rails for safe as possible under truck home effort!
