33's 3 litre CRD
Hi All,
I've had a bit of a search but can't find a definitive answer, so hope you guys can help.
I am taking delivery of a new 2016 Y61 GU 10? or is it 11? (Not sure how to tell on the series #)
Anyway, stock tyres are 275/65/17, I have a 2" lift in the works and am thinking of changing the tyres out to Mickey T ATZ P3's. I currently run these on my Pajero and am very happy with them on and offroad. What I want to know is the question of going up to 33's (285/70/17) from the stock size.
I think the factory alloys are +10 Offset.
Is there is any issue going to the 285/70/17 wheel with the standard offset wheels, IE: Any scrubbing etc?
How big of a power hit does the stock 3.0 litre take going from 31's to 33's and a more aggressive LT profile tyre?
Is it a better prospect to just go to 265/70/17?
Will 16" wheels fit this model? and is there that big a price difference between 16 and 17's to warrant changing wheels?
If I was to sell the 17's and fit 16's, what is the rough resale value of barely used 17" factory alloys and tyres? and what offset should I be aiming for in 16's if I was to go 33's?
Cheers,
Steve

Hey Steve. I have had the ATZ p3' on both of my Patrols now. on the 3L and the 4.2 , Both sets identical size. 285/75/16, 33's. Both were -22 offset with 16 steel rims.
The only scrubbing was front mud flap/plastics. Which had to be ripped off and/or trimmed. Great tire by the way. On and off road. And looks good on the car.

If your in an manual youll notice a bit more when taking off but ince rolling youll be fine.
16" are usually a fair bit cheaper than the 17's but they are all coming down.
16" should fit no worries, but if changing rims id go a 0 or -13 off set for a bit wider stance.
Im pretty sure @MudRunnerTD has 16" -13 on his gu 4 and are flush with wheel arches..

I have Neg6 offset 16x8 rims. the price difference in the Tyres for 16 v 17 will see you get the Rims and Tyres in 16s at about the same price or cheaper than just the 17" rubber! silly i know. No Brianer for me. If your going to do any touring then good luck getting a 17 tyre at a reasonable price in the Outback!
I run 305/70R16 tyres and they are a great size. still a 33 but a little wider. The 285/75 is a 33x11.5 and the 305/70 is a 33x12.5 in the old scale.
Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!!
....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Thanks for the responses, yep no doubt a great tyre. I've clocked up 70k (Rotating set of 6) on them so far in the Paj and reckon they have another 20-30k easily in them, managed to stake one, but no fault of the tyre it was while trying to turn a camper around in the mulga scrub when I ran out of chainsaw fuel to clear a track!
Sounds like I shouldn't have too many drama's power wise with the larger tyre, I'm not much of a speedster these days anyway and can live with a small power hit. The pics above look great and the -18 looks like no problems. I have seen mentioned quite a few times regarding the 0 and -13 offsets on the forum. I do like the wider stance so I'll investigate some 16's and probably go for some steelies if they fit ok.
One more question, regarding the torque converter on the Patrol. The Paj was reluctant to lock the converter with bigger tyres so I fitted a wholesale auto's lock up switch. Is this a recommended mod with the Patrols 4 speed auto, noting that I don't tow very often ?

I correct my self. Both my sets were on -22 offsets. Not -18 just checked the receipts.

Wow, crazy difference in prices between 16's and 17's, I thought they would be getting closer by now. I know from a few years back what 17's are worth in the bush, I had to buy one at Tjukayirla roadhouse on the great central road and also changed a set of 4 at Uluru. Taught me a lesson about heading bush on factory hwy tyres! Had to buy crap tyres at top dollar.
I'll investigate what a few of the local suppliers can offer me. Thanks.

Mudrunner is spot on. When I was getting quotes on tyres and difference between the 16 and 17 was astronomical. Shame as I really loved the look of the standard GU rims. But the price was just stupid for a set of 17's. So to me 16 were the choice.

The 3 Litre CRD will be fine with the 33's ... enough grunt for most situations, and it will turn them OK. As Hodge already made mention, they will scrub on the front mudflaps, on full lock in reverse. OK going forwards.
They are even OK getting off the line .... the earlier 2000 - 2001 Di's were a pig to get off the line with 33's in hot weather and facing uphill ( and that is before towing !!!! )
The standard rims look great, but are terrible in the bush, as the flat face marks up too easily. The earlier dished 16" alloys from the Series 3 versions were much better in that regard. I was going to take mine off, and put on something else, but it is too late now.
GU PATROL 2011 Ti, with goodies...

I've just been speaking with the local tyre power and the difference for Mickey T ATZ P3's is $50 between the 285/70/17 @$410 each and 285/75/16 @ $360.00 each. Keep in mind this is only the first mob I've rung, and prices may be better elsewhere. He was also willing to offer me up to $150 each for the factory tyres, but obviously needs to see them first. So maybe the price difference between sizes is narrowing as more and more vehicles are released with 17's.
