I think its becasue they use cheap chinee taps. You can get them for around 5 or so dollars. I have the same tap but it has two female threads. And I bought it from Pirtek from memory. Hasn't leaked a drop. I considered a Bunnings irrigation tap but being all plastic and my drain hose runs down and out at the rear section of the front guard and along the chassis rail for ease of draining, I was concerned it may get damage to easy. @Hodge, its just a ball valve. Nothing really special about it....

Ive got the same valve and no issues with it been plastic. I used clear tubing and can easily see the amount of oil collecting in it.

OK.
The replacement tap arrived from the supplier. Looks like the exact same unit. I have taped the threads and put a smear of industrial silicon on the barbs before tightening it all up. I'll be keeping an eye on it to see if this one leaks.

Provent valve? Didn't know they had one. Up to to run your own hose and drain tap.

A drain kit ( hose & drain valve/tap ) is an supply option when you purchase a Provent Catch Can.

Yeah, I seen those cheap-n-nasty kits on ebay. Provent don't make the kits, just sellers "Value Adding" (term used loosely).
I will use this one for a demo in FAIL: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Oil-Drain-Kit-for-Provent-200-/261831447404?hash=item3cf65ed36c:g:waYAAOSwYlJW3NX 8
- PVC hose, does not work well with oil, goes hard and/brittle. Not good with heat either.
- Ball valve, these have Teflon seals around the ball. Oil softens Teflon and and leaks will come of it.
Just my 2 cents.

OK ..... bugger!
Now the replacement valve is leaking. Same issue, slowly leaking through the valve, as though it was open slightly. Time for something new. Maybe I'll try the cheap Bunnings options. Something so simple is starting to annoying the crap out of me.
