thought with a couple of runs it would get up to speed

Could be a faulty battery, have you got a multimeter to check if there is a current draw while the engine is off?
My Patrol did this a while ago, turned out to be a faulty diode inside the alternator.

I am he, fear me
Take the new Battery back to where you got it from and have them test it or replace it if they can't test it.
Make sure the 'new' one you put in is fully charged IE 90% or better.
Did you use your 'old' Alternator or is it a different one that came with the engine or elsewhere?
Don't rely on an Alternator based charging system to bring a 'flat' battery back up to full charge esp if the draw down has been high current.
When you get the new battery in, check the charging voltage at the battery Terminals with the engine running

Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Can you borrow a charger in the meantime? It might just need a really good charge but if it is a bit sick then the cold weather will hurt it
