Spacers are illegal here, plus they will put extra strain on the bearings.
Not recommended, better off finding or making a diff the length you want.
Saying that I have 10mm ones on my trailer to match the track of my Patrol
with no problems
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there
Don't know what all the grief is about spacers.
Using longer studs for the "thinner" ones might be a problem. Don't really see why if they are torqued correctly.
Using second set of offset studs for the "thicker" should be fine. but with everything checking and maintenance is important.
Yes they are illegal, but, how many of us here have different offset rims, that adds to the bearing stress and so on.
Seems a whole lot of beat up and scare mongering to me.
Cheers

Isn't building a longer Diff more hassle. We are thinking about using some high grade aluminium spacers for 3cm (Thicker ones should not be a problem) from SPARCO. But interesting point about the extra strain on the bearings! Even the thicker ones? How do you figure that please? Help me understand.
Why do you want spacers? You would be far better buying a larger offset rim to suit your needs. The logic for the increased load on the bearings occurs from the counter lever of the offset, this is applicable regardless of how you do it. (Rim offset or spacers) spacers increase the tensile strain on the wheel studs though for sure.
I would avoid at all costs.
Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!! ....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!
Check out my Toy --> MudRunnerTD's GQ From the Ground Up
The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.

Well the further out you push the weight the greater force against the bearings to keep it straight. Take a see saw. Say you have 100kg just past the pivot point. You'll lift it easy from the other end. Now take that weight right to the opposite end and try lift it. A lot more force needed.
anyway, blokes have noticed some issues when running lager offset rims, which is what your trying to achieve but with spacers. They tend to exaggerate any small issues threw the wobbles so if your steering and suspension setup isn't 100% you'll soon know.
