Got a list of God mods at all?
I have an 09 4.8 and it is thirsty with power to burn. Def check all the history, even more so if a fleet vehicle. Mine blew up at 75000 and was a fleet vehicle, turned out the log book was dodgy and after Nissan and I did research into it, found out the Govt Dept only serviced it twice in 75000.

Yeah, it's disgraceful I know.
The way Gov't Fleet is now handled I wouldn't touch an ex-Gov vehicle with a Prado Jack handle(and I'd never touch anything Prado) unless I personally knew the history.
Ours get serviced regularly... once in a blue moon regularly that is.
Quite often I've jumped in vehicles that are up to 20,000 K's overdue.
Nobody does the interim service (oil and filter) and if the vehicle misses a milestone, say, 30,000 K's then they wait to 40,000 K's so the servicing doesn't double up.
If it misses 40 then... well, you can see a pattern here eh...
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Hi
Thanks guys for the info so far and with what you have all said about a 4.5 or 4.8 what years should i be looking at. Keep in mind I want secondhand and would not be buying unless it is RACQ inspected either. What would be a fair amount of kilometres and what price range should i expect.

Don't put to much faith in the inspection. My car was cleared with no significant issues on inspection. 3 months later I had a new radiator/engine/LPG converter and a lot of moula out of pocket.

Patrol God
I have a 98 4.5L GU which is on both Petrol & Gas.
When I purchased mine I had the Inlet Ports on the Head enlarged which made the Motor breath better with better pulling Power.
I achieve 18 Litres per Hundred K's on Gas. 15 Litres per Hundred K's on ULP.
24 Litres per one hundred K's towing my Jayco Pop Top on Gas The Pop Top is 1400 Kg's
Gas Prices are now a lot better 53 cents per Litre in Bendigo.
Would recommend either a 4.8 or 4.5
BTW my Motor has 310,000 K's on it and runs extremely well.

Hi again
Well have been looking. Why is it so hard to get something that hasn't had a lift kit, big tyres and heaps of mods. I just want a good car with roof racks, bull bar, awning and maybe a lift would be ok. So far looked at a GU -asked how much beach and mud it had seen and owner said beach a couple of times and hardly any mud-looked at his facebook page and wouldn't go near it.
So if i looked at something late 99 or early 2000 in a 4.5 or 4.8 what sort of kilometres would be average for a car of that year and would like to stay away from Turbo. Would anyone consider a 3l diesel-no turbo. I would not be towing much if at all and then only a camper trailer. Would leave the boat to the GQ.
I find there are a few out there but am worried about secondhand-- but can't afford new and don't like the look of them anyway. Older is much preferred. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Guys
Ronnieh

Patrol God
Factor in 20,000k a year for modest K travelled per year
meaning a 2000 model will have around 300,000k on the clock

Hey mate, no such thing as a non-turbo 3L diesel Patrol.
You've got the 3L turbo diesel, 2.8L turbo diesel, 4.2L turbo and non turbo diesel, or the 4.5 and 4.8 petrol versions.

Hi all
Thanks for your input on what I should look at-- Found a couple I might of been interested in until I checked out a couple of facebook pages and saw what the owners had been doing with the cars. Asked one whether it had seen Mud or Beach--answer was keep it out of the mud and only been up beach a couple of times--Yeh right.
I have found my dream Petrol Patrol. 2001 ST Model with 130,000 on the clock. Owned by an older couple who had planned to be grey nomads but because of illness that did not happen. One Owner since new, Immaculate condition--never on the beach, full service history, new tyres, Spotties, rego, Roadworthy.
One Happy Lady here.
Thanks for your ideas and advice again guys.
