    4 would be the best but as with everything else it comes down to money. 1 set is cheaper than 2 sets

    Most times conditions are not severe enough to even worry about chains on a 4by - let alone all four. Besides - you have obviously never had to put chains on in the snow with a blizzard raging! To be out there long enough to put one set on is painful enough.
