Shut up Andy... Lol

Was thinking about running the intercooler pipes at 3" but spoke to a business within our industry who advised to only go 2.5" pipe.
Reason being you'll loose the compression.
I remember matty saying a minimum of 2.5" and with my limited knowledge would of thought 3" would be better????
I would of thought the entire set up would be compressed few seconds after start up and 3" would be better for more air flow in the intake surely?
With your setup Andy and what your wanting 2.5" will be more than enough. 2.5" will be easier to fit to with room constraints in the engine bay of a GQ especially if both batteries are still in the engine bay. 3" is better yes and a few people will run 2.5" on the hot side and 3" on the cold side it has to do with air speeds and volume etc. When you put air into a big chamber (intercooler) it slows down then you squeeze it back into a pipe it speeds up. So the idea of 3" on the cold side is to give you a nice volume of cold compressed air.
But as I said first 2.5" will be heaps for your setup and you will soon discover even 2.5 is quite tight.

I noticed its going to be relatively easy to run 3" on cold side so should I just do that whilst I'm installing it or just leave 2.5 on both?
The main issue is hot side due to aux battery, alternator, AC, etc....tight fit!!!!
Just leave the 2.5 on both, unless you plan on running a bigger turbo and pump in the near future.

Just showed my brother the wrx intercooler and how perfect it fits into the entire grill of the gq.
He had strong concerns of it taken up the entire air flow to the radiator which I had concerns myself but now that he strongly recommends I don't do it I'm second guessing this...
Can anyone steer my back in the right direction or is this a major problem completely blocking off the entire grill???
Thoughts???
Mate I would not has thought it was a big deal. The air will flow through it, then through the aircon condenser then to the radiator. This is the down side of a front mount but plenty of guys are running the biggest they could fit mate.
At worst you might get a slight increase on your water temp but if you only run the Nissan gauge then you will never know as the flat spot in the gauge is huge. The up side though is the Intake air temps will be reduced to combat that and the exhaust temps will be reduced and this equals performance!
That's my spin, interested to hear from Matty, this is my logic only

Check out my Toy --> MudRunnerTD's GQ From the Ground Up
The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
