Do you have a winch mate ?
Assuming you do, some of the essentials...
Recovery hitch to slide in where tow tongue goes as tow balls can kill.
Snatch strap, tree trunk protector, rated d shackles and recovery points ( threedogs is the man for these ).

What about brands to use and brands to stay away from. Lots of kits on eBay.

Personally I'd stay away from the cheaper stuff doesn't seem to last, other than that look for rated gear ,
vendor sponsors here Iron Man have A recovery Kit as do all the BIG 3 ARB,TJM and Opposite lock.
Always buy the best you can afford these are safety items, learn how to use them properly and
NEVER ,NEVER USE A TOWBALL AS A RECOVERY POINT. Keep your gear clean and inspect when washing
etc and turf any suspect gear, this include winch cable and shackles as well. Exhaust jack is useful if sand driving a lot
Also a decent portable compressor is handy in more ways than one

X2 with 3dogs, I personally think a shovel is a mans best friend. It should be #1 on the list.

If you want info talk to/join one of the many clubs. I know a bloke in the Mitsubishi club who was telling me about their driver training weekends that cover all that sort of info
