Scan Gauge.. is it worth it for a non turbo 4.2?
Hi guys.. with the old q getting on I'm looking at adding a few extra items to assist with keeping an eye on things..
I have an egt gauge on the way, but was wondering about a scan gauge.. is it worth it for a non turbo 4.2?

Kallen, have started a new thread for your Q
Answer in short is yes, but really depends on what info your trying to get out of it as the GQ's don't have pull a lot of info out of the standard ECU.

Basically want to keep an eye on the workings of it all.. it will soon be a tourer and towing vehicle. So egt is a big one in my eyes.
I guess first up I need to see if its comparable with the ecu of the 91 Q..

I can't see you needing an EGT for NA unless you are going to put one on every cylinder. Which will differ due to inlet manifold design.
I would recommend, oil pressure, oil temp and water temp. maybe put in a coolant level sensor. It's an old mechanical donk, A good ear can also tell you a few things

Yea fair call. Guess I want to be sure.
But how would the egt's differ from NA to turbo? If your saying one on each outlet wouldn't it be the same turbo'd?

You'll still have different temps with a turbo per pot, but the turbo is also a heat generator. You won't get the same temps NA. Or as quick, heat issues will will be able to be spotted by oil and water temp

yeh I'm pretty sure your plug would be Nissan Consult and not ODBII, I'm pretty sure as Cluck has said it won't work on your year model but you can still use ones like ECU Talk www.ecutalk.com

Cheers Todd, couldn't remember Nissan Consult but knew that the OBDII wouldn't work........... there is another thread on here somewhere that talk a bit about this stuff but for the life of me can't find it at the mo. And I could well be wrong but I also thought that ecutalk would only show error codes
