Radio Reception
G'day all,
I have a retractable radio aerial on the patrol, the reception i get on all fm/am stations is bloody bad to say the least. I thought the interference might have been caused by the large UHF antenna i had on the bullbar but after removing that the problem persists.
The previous stock nissan radio had the same problem so i don't think its the radio unit. I'm actually wondering if the snorkel is the cause of the problem because of the close location to the aerial.
Has anybody else got this problem with flaky radio receptions or maybe a solution?
Cheers

us poms are crap at cricket
Could be something as simple as a bad connection between the ariel and the bodywork.Maybe take it off, give it and the mounting area a clean up and refit..
It is now official, we are not quite so sh@t at cricket as we were! Rugby Union is a different matter.

Re: Radio Reception
My reception is pretty bad too. It's the same before and after I fitted the stainless snorkel. It's got a JVC head unit too so I would have thought that would be good enough quality. My vs Calais had perfect reception everywhere

Same here, woeful reception both before and after snorkel.
I asked Nissan at my last service and they checked it against a similar model with inbuilt antenna, same poor reception. Looks like it's the antenna and not the radio, as mine has the Eclipse radio and the other Patrol had the standard radio. My XTrail could hold the same station for 130km but struggle for 60km with this.

Sorry just realised you were talking about a retractable aerial, sorry mine is built into the rear size window. Still get woeful reception with it.

I had great reception before I put in a double din head unit. Now it's bollocks! Go figure. Snorkel won't affect it at all.

I had the same issue, fitted an aftermarket antenna & it sits next to my UHF antenna, now perfect reception, it plugged straight into the back of the head unit, now all I have to do is kill the power to the rectractable unit to stop it going up & down, it get stuck alot anyway & Nissan wanted $600-800 for a replacement unit, cant remember the price but the bloke on the Nissan counter learnt a few new swear words that day, cost me $100 for the antenna from a radio shop & a mount from ARB, heaps more flexible, cant really damage it with a branch etc, happy days
