If the computer can't see it when its first plugged in, try going into control panel & going through "add new hardware" the computer will then do a manual search for any new hardware or devices recently added to it system. Once its detected the device it should install a suitable driver for the hardware automatically & if it cant find one, it will prompted you to give it permission to use the internet to search for a suitable driver. If it finds one it will install it & your on your way.
If this isn't the problem it could be a partition of format issue but try the above first & get back to us if you find you need more help with it.
My son has had two stop working.
I wont see him until the end of the week so will ask him.
Thanks

If the portable HD's have stopped working for some reason & can't be accessed via a computers OS not all is lost. Either myself or I could recommend someone else to extract the info off the failed drive & transfer it to another drive.
Just an option if he gets stuck.

No not really but that depends largely on how much HD reconstruction work it needs.
Myself & the guy I would recommend won't continue doing any work on a customers equipment without consulting them first after our initial inspection has been carried out.

Ok..... with yours I nned you to go back & do the same as you did before to get to the basic info page, then find the hardware tab at the top of the page click that & in the new page find the device manager button.
Once you click on that it will open a new page with a list of items in it. If you only have one item here it should be the word computer with an "X" marked box. click on the "X" marked box & should brop down a list.
In that list if the is any listing with a question make or an exclamation make post back which item is marked please.
