    Toughest Patrol??? GQ or GU

This one is going to Stir the pot!!!!!!!
So guys what is tougher, a GQ or GU?
Ever time I'm with my mates and we have a few frothies this old debate always comes out!!! I need some new facts to take to the party.
Ok we all know the 4.2L D or TD is legendary, and we all know the 2.8L TD and 3.0L TD are not!!!
So I'm talking about the other stuff other then engine!!! I read on Wikipedia that the GU was quote

"The underbody hardware (differential, CVs etc.) were significantly strengthened. Comfort levels were also increased over GQ, especially in the seating and NVH areas."

Ok boys and girls lets start the ball rolling......

Firstly WTF!. We all know the 3.0l is legendary...LOLOLOL what's wrong with the 3.0L? better output figures then the 4.2 then you have fraction of the fuel usage compared to the 4.2. Better/Zippier driving then the slug.
Secondly, there is only one tough truck and that is the GU.

    Hahaha, you started it...lolol

I like the 3.0L, I think its great, but some do beg to differ. I have a 2.8 TD and I'm the first to say its not great, but its the best I could afford in a diesel GU. I agree I'm thinking GU and they look better too! But I won't cast my vote until all the facts are gathered.

    So far
    GU 1 - GQ 0

brother inlaw has a 4.2 GQ and i have a 2.8 GU, we both agree there isnt much his 4.2 can do that my 2.8 cant, just have to realise they work differently but at the end of day are both very capable motors, as for the car itself, we both agree mine is more comfy

I Agree with the cumfort factor Lufkin!!!! My mate with his 4.2D GQ reckon his diffs, gearbox and cv's are all way stronger then my GU 2.8. I'm sure he's not right, either they are the same or the GU would be stronger, otherwise why would nissan go backwards with the GU?

GQ's have stronger gearboxes then the GU's but the GU's have stronger CV's.

There are a heaps of other differences that I'm sure will follow...

The GQ's look strong and robust and are more suited for manly men whereas the GU's have been known for their feminine appeal and grocery shopping attributes....lol

    Yep, here it comes!!!

In terms of the TD42, the earlier TD42 (silver top) in the GQ is more robust as well. Check this link out...

Although all TD42's are mint of course.

GU have larger front diff physically no GQ had the bigger front i have a 99 GQ and its still got a GQ diff. As stated the gearboxes are slightly different GQ seems to be the tougher one there but the gu post 04 seem to have fixed this problem. The steering box is stronger in the GU although the later model GQ's have the same box fitted. In my oppinion i think it comes down to the time The GQ served its purpose for 11 yrs relatively unchanged. Where as the GU with the legendary motor combo only went for 9 yrs.
