New Key - Car Wont Start
Hi - new to this so apologies if this has been covered before.
Managed to lose my one car key while on holidays (had a small black head on it) and got the locksmith to cut me a new key yesterday (just a plain steel key) as we both thought that GQ wouldn't have any additional security.
the key turns the lock fine, all electronics work, and teh glow plug light comes one - but when i turn the key the whole way nothing happens. Trying to work out if this means i have an immobiliser, or if i have a glow plugs issue or similiar (car hasn't been started in over a month, but battery gauge seems fine).
cheers

That's definitely a strange one. As far as I'm aware there was no additional security, unless as you say there is an aftermarket immobiliser fitted. In which case you should have a seperate key/remote. I would definately put a multimeter on the battery to see if it's holding a charge. If a vehicle is left for any extended period of time without disconnecting the battery it will inevitably drain. It may still have residual charge, but not enough to crank the old girl over. If you have a trickle charger, pop that on and give it a charge overnight and see how you go.

Apprentices Rule!!!
Was your old key a remote locking one? This often also acts as an immobilizer if you don't unlock it with the button.
Cheers!

Hi Bill.
Do you have an automatic or manual?.
You could have a starter motor problem, try giving it a couple of taps with a hammer.

Hi mate, Start with changing the battery to one that you know is fully charged. Then if nothing check to see if your getting power to the starter solenoid(the small thin wire) when key in start position. Also check fuses.

Check that you don't have a main fuse link near the battery. It may look like a thin square with a flip tpe lid. If it is on the start power feed and is blown, you will see good battery voltage in gauge but ill be dead for starting.

Do you have a flashing LED light in the car anywhere to suggest aftermarket immobiliser.
