Has it affected the turning effort? Would it wreck the king pin bearings?

remove if necessary to recreate bearing preload would be my pick, I guess. More tension than required can't be good for the bearings?

As an act of desperation I have just removed my shims as steering wobble made car undeliverable.
drivers side lower had no shim, but the other 3 did.
Has anyone had any significant side-effects from removing the shims?
How about if/ when wobble repo occurs? Replace swivel hub bearings?

I removed shims from my coil cab and ran it shimless for several years after I rebuilt all the front end bearings, never had an issue. Now with my wagon, similar thing, shims removed after a full font end rebuild and no issues yet.

Guys, you can't just remove shims and be done with it. Shims weren't fitted for no reason.
After removal, did you check the preload on the swivel hub? What about premature axle seal wear due to axle misalignment?
If you are going to remove shims, remove an equal amount top to bottom. If the preload is too great, purchase thinner shims from Nissan etc.
If you think it has worked for you, it doesn't mean it's a correct cure for others to just remove shims randomly.
For those running the offset bearings, you have a greater chance of splitting the cup with greater preload.
