Nup, not revving the engine at all Bob, are you talking about putting yours in neutral in the transfer case, not the gearbox ?? On the visor of my car it clearly states that you should not hesitate between high and low 4 wheel drive. As soon as i stopped doing this, there was no more problem, not a sound, just smooth transition. My post was more to do with wondering if i had originaly damaged anything ?? Maybe auto boxes and manual boxes operate differently with the transfer case ?

I have found with my GQ TB42 auto, when i put it into 4low i have to hold it there while i move the transmission to drive (or reverse)with the other hand.

Yes I was talking about the Transfer Case.
Just checked the instructions on my Visor and it says nothing about hesitating between high and low on the transfer Case.
Must be different with an auto transmission

just checked my visor....Yep it says to change the transfer between 4H and 4L in one movement and not to pause in N as this causes gear clashes. I have '91 TB42 Auto so it must be an auto thing

Hi Peter,
I don't think you would of done any damage.
Just checking......did you use the correct type/grade oil when you did your oil change?.
Cheers Rodney

Personally, if you were stationary I'd be very surprised if you even gave it a hurry up (they're tough boxes), but as said, just for peace of mind if you want to drop the transfer case fluid just to be sure of no filings, then do that mate - at least puts your mind at ease, but as said, would highly doubt you've done any real damage as such.

Hi 1Peter,
Do you remember if your tfr case drain plug is magnetic? Most are.
If your is magnetic, evidence of your handiwork will stick there, and not float around further in the tfr case causing trouble
