Your opinion on Big power petrol turbo motors in 4wd's
Hey, I have a 91 Patrol 4.2 petrol and am looking into bigger HP motor options. I would like to do a RB25 or RB26 conversion but I don't know if they would be any good off road.
Has anyone here driven or owned a high powered turbo petrol motor in a 4wd?
I have looked into the cost of changing it to a diesel turbo and RB conversions and the costs are quite the same, I like the sound the RB motors make but Diesels are better under water. My petrol is good in the water but it's carby and i don't know how a EFI motor will go.

Hey mate
yep - I've just gone the turbo petrol path, and couldn't be happier truth be told. A few obstacles on the way, and just dropped my rig back down to the mechanics after the weekend away (different problems though!! ), but all in all, the 4.2 (mines EFI) respond extremely well to turbo setup.
Give Will Tobin a call from QuickSpool (he didn't do mine, but has a good name in the market) as he does Garrett straight bolt on kits for the Patrol specifically starting at $3999 - they put out a reported 350+ HP ... no slouches by any stretch.
Good luck with it mate, and don't be shy to give me a holler if you have any specific questions - I'll do my best with what I learned and find out the rest from the bloke who installed it in order to get you answers.

Thanks guys, Wow Bigrig... 164 pages later and i still think i'll go the RB26. I'm not sure how healthy my TB42 is so i think i'd be better off getting a newer potentially better looked after motor (As you would hope a GTR motor would have been looked after) and with less K's on it. I'd still love to talk to whoever has the RB26 Patrol.

Patrol God
A mate has the RB30 with a 330 cfm holley. It goes damn well, with heaps of punch. He has just purchased a couple of VL turbo motors to build one up. cant wait to see the result.
