    4WD Insurance DGA Brokers Melbourne

    Hi all,

    TL;DR at the bottom.

Appreciate there's a couple of other Insurance threads floating around but I think you guys will like to read this.

I've been calling Insurance companies today trying to get quotes. Mobs such as RACV, AAMI, GIO, JUST CAR.. they really don't want to insure your 4WD when it's modified.

    Now I've just bought another Patrol and the modifications and accessories is somewhat extensive. After relaying the mod list to the bloke at AAMI, he was huffing and puffing because;
    a) he couldn't find most of the items in his "form"
    b) He ran out of room in the "notes" section
    c) Maybe he has trouble breathing

After mucking around, they wont touch me due to an after market Turbo. As soon as you mention Turbo, you have HOON plastered all over your name.

I got onto DGA Insurance Brokers who I see are recommended by quite a few people.
They shot me back a quote of $1517.00. This was already hundreds of dollars cheaper than the other mobs. This also covers me ANYWHERE (lol AB) in Australia. Rivers, Sand dunes, unnamed tracks, your back yard.. anywhere. Also, they cover ANY modification. None of this "if it doesn't pass a RWC, we can't insure it" crap. Any mods. That's great!

The lady is very nice and helpful there. She managed to get the price down further for me to a final sum of $1300.00 p/a with an excess of $500.

Personal items and camping gear covered for $1000.00 including GPS. Not bad. To top it off, they'll cover me for an agreed value which is fantastic. Market value on GU Patrols is about $20,000. There's no way I was going to get insurance and only be covered up to $20,000.

So I'm very happy with the outcome. There's also a 21day cooling off period so If I don't like it, I can get out which is handy.

I'd recommend any keen/serious 4wd'ers to give them a call. $1300 might sound a lot to some people but the peace of mind is worth it.

    TL;DR
    • $1300.00 p/a (discounted fro $1517.00

    • Covered absolutely anywhere

    • All tracks, named and unnamed

    • Covered for agreed value

    • $1000 personal property inc GPS

    • $500 excess

    • Windscreen cover
    • Any and all mods. Do not adhere to R.W.C standards only. 5" lift? No problem.

I've heard stories from people I know that get insurance and it sounds great - "yes we will insure your 5" lift no worries" etc etc. But when it comes to a write off or accident the insurance company will say the car is not LEGAL so it breaches terms... It's the only thing I worry about when it comes to insurance, imagine forking out over a grand and having the whole contract void in the end. Eeek.

Timbo would be interested to know if they specifically said that to you? They seem like an ok mob from what you've said.

    From their website... http://www.dgainsurance.com.au/4wd.htm

    The Policy:

    Managed by DGA Insurance Brokers

For more than a decade DGA has been servicing the insurance needs in the 4WD industry.

As market leaders in 4WD Insurance, DGA has earned a reputation for total reliability and superior customer service.

    Specialist insurance for your vehicle

The makes and models of 4WD vehicles available today are as varied as the needs of their owners: city driving, highway towing, outback touring, off-roading and farming. Now, protection for your "whole vehicle" is here through Australian 4WD Insurance. All you have to do is nominate the value adding equipment to be insured.

Many 4WD owners fit aftermarket accessories to obtain the best possible performance and protection. Sometimes the unavoidable happens and many owners are subsequently confronted with vehicle insurance problems. Small print which negates cover due to minor or major modifications is often discovered too late - after the accident.

Australian 4WD are aware that standard vehicles often can't do the job, nor can standard insurance policies

So we have designed and negotiated insurance cover specifically for 4WD owners.

Australian 4WD Insurance today is able to offer you insurance that will protect your investment and give you peace of mind Australia-wide, on and off gazetted or public roads.

    Special features of this policy:

Full off road cover anywhere in Australia
    Cover for imported 4x4s
Australia-wide coverage for drivers 25 and over
    No exclusions for modifications
A new vehicle if yours is written off in a collision within two years of manufacture (before 30,000 kilometres)
Emergency repairs after a collision or theft
Temporary accommodation if your vehicle is disabled or stolen more than 100 kilometres from home
Cover for damage to a towed trailer
Cover for personal belongings, portable refrigerators and camping equipment
The cost of hiring a vehicle (for up to 14 days) if your vehicle is stolen
Windscreen claims do not affect your No Claim Bonus
Faultless No Claim Bonus and Faultless Excess
    Protected maximum No Claim Bonus
$20,000,000 legal liability for Property Damage
Pay by the month premiums available at no extra cost
No limit on the amount of accessories fitted
Standard excess applies to off road accidents
    Choose your own repairer

Sound good to me. Just in time since my renewal is coming up next month! As long as the premium is competative!

Hmmmm ... making contact on behalf of a forum where they could potentially pick up heaps of vehicles if the rate was right sounds appealing ... don't you think?? lol

    Sounds like a plan stan.

If we can get 10 people reply to this post mentioning they are keen to switch over and are 100% keen on doing this then I have no hesitation in approaching them for a group deal for sure!

I just rang them to test the water - quoted me "market value" on vehicle and modifications (so depreciated value of accessories/mods - not replacement value).

    92 Ti Wagon - $6600
No limit on accessories (I listed $16000 worth, and would subsequently assume that means some calculated figure of return from there - not 100% of this value in event of write off).

    $887 per year ...

Still worth posing the question I suppose.

EDIT: had no problem with insuring any mod so long as engineered - no problem with turbo, suspension lift, fuel system, etc

Do they cover tyres? My insurance wouldn't cover wheels and tyres.
