I just bought a parts car for $1500.00 ('97 GQ wagon) with a working motor. Woo Hoo! Finally after more than 12 months searching...

Now I get to learn a new trade....Diesel Mechanic.

Stay tuned. I will be parting out most of it to try and recover some of the cost. I will post a list of parts in the next week or so once I have them all out and cleaned up.

One step closer to getting my truck back on the road!

    Cheers,

    Rob
Just about to jump into my next Patrol. A 2001 GU II TB45E .

WARNING!: Do not ever use a towball as a recovery point. They are not rated and can become a deadly projectile during a recovery if they snap off, and they have done so with tragic results in the past.

    Cheers Stropp.

Looking forward to the challenge actually. I have never attempted replacing a motor myself. Although with all of the info on this forum and out there in internet land I should be able to work out most of the details. If I get stuck I can always ask a question here.

The Idea is to drop in this working motor and get the truck back on the road. Then I can take my time and tear down my original motor and tick a box on my bucket list, that is to rebuild a motor myself (and hopefully make it work) once the motor, fuel pump and turbo have been rebuilt, I will drop it back into the Patrol. I might rebuild the older one for practice and sell it off. I wont get my money back on it all but I should get a fair bit.

Isn't that rediculous.....they stopped us getting big fuel discounts but what about holiday accommodation prices doubling in price over public holiday periods. I guess that's ok to rip us off as long as we don't let the discount thing get out of hand...

The discount thing is to help the private servos to compete with the mechas like woollies and coles
