    Oztent zipper

    Hi Folks,

The bloody zipper on the RV5 is not grabbing anymore.

Does anyone know of any magical trick to get it to work again by chance?

I’m assuming I need to pull the stitching off at the end to get it to grab again?

I dunno about the oztent in particular, but I usually just move the zippier up and down furiously while I swear at it and eventually it somehow grabs again?
I am guessing you have already tried that though!

Yeah I have, I screamed louder this time and it did grab but then came off further down.

    Bugger it!

It’s bloody Lachy who did this!

He opens the tent like a menace tearing the two flaps open like a curtain.

I have had success in the past by crimping the zipper with some pliers without removing it from the zip.
Just try to close the sides that slide along the teeth by putting the pliers on either side of the zipper while it is still in place.

Didn’t work but closer inspection I reckon Lachy has damaged some teeth at the top unfortunately.

get it closed as high as you can, and a couple stitches with builders string/fishing line/heavy cotton, so the zipper can't go above the damaged teeth...mattress needle or sacking/darning needle do the job

And if you can spare the weight, and find someone who still does it, replace with brass zips that will probably outlive your kids...

There’s a few damaged teeth in various places unfortunately.

There’s a company in Ferntree Gully who repairs these pretty cheap that @MB has used.

I’ll find out there contact details
