Refuse to pay for it when i dont need it. I know what sites NOT to go to and know what emails NOT to open.
    Never had an issue yet....
Acutally i did have one issue once or twice. Self inflicted... I was on some warez website hunting for a specific keygen, and knew what was going to happen. And it did. This is why i have another laptop just for this type of searching.
I do wonder sometimes whether half the viruses around are actually created by the people who make the programs to protect you from them.

I don't use it either mate, viruses don't just appear on computers, the come from user error. So long as you don't install programs that sound to good to be true you will be fine. The problem is that most people just rush through things on computers and that's how you get viruses and malware

MS security essentials is what I use on my windows 7 machine.

Dont use your PC as an admin and the above software and you should be fine...within reason...

Sorry Agman I don't quite understand this. I'm not fully IT savvy. What do you mean about not using PC as an admin? I use my PC to run my business, emails, payroll, banking, etc plus looking at dodgy internet sites like this one!! haha

In that case Plassy. NOD32 gets my vote. Norton, was and still is a memory hogging program. Not such a big issue if your pc has oodles of ram. But NOD is a small yet powerful program.

When you first switch on your PC do you log in? If you do log in, do you log in as administrator or admin? If you do this is bad because if any nasty stuff comes in through your browser it will install automatically and after that point the Malware owns your PC. If you log in via a user you will always get a dialog box come up to ask you if you want something installed. If something like this pops up and you are not installing anything then you know there is something trying to get admin privileges and install on your system - not good!

If you dont log on when you first turn on your PC then this is even worse again!

Thanks mate. This PC has 8GB RAM with over 90% unused, so presume the memory hogging Norton wouldn't be an issue? How much RAM does that program chew?
