$700.... OUCH.
The driver side air bag will need to be removed (carefully) along with the steering wheel.
Have a look in the workshop manual it goes through how to change it.
I haven't done one on a Patrol, only Holdens but I would think it would be just as easy.
You will then need to try and clear the codes. (I did recently see another method on you tube that apparently works on Patrols).
Send a PM to NIZZBITS and see how much he can supply the clock coil spring for.

Nothing to do with an airbag system is DIY.
You could try Nizzbits to see how much the part is to see if your Nissan dealer is trying to rip you off. Maybe buy the part from Nizzbits and get Nissan to fit, that may work out a bit cheaper.

ok so i picked up my car. Got in it and drove away. After them telling me on the phone the spring need replcing because the light and code says so.
I drove of in the car and the air bag light does not flash anymore! My cruise control stopped working, and it looks like they pulled the horn fuse under the bonnet out.
That must be the same fuse the cruise control is connected to.
any reason they would of pulled this fuse out?
So the air bag light comes on when i first start the engine (which is normal) and then goes off completely. That means its fixed???
i rang the bloke at Nissan to see if they disconnected anything and he said no.

The horn circuit does run through the clock spring as well, I guess they must have pulled the horn fuse to test the clock spring????? and forgot to put it back in????
Ratty, I see you found the you tube clip.

Flashing airbag light.....
2002 td42 GU wagon
I pulled apart my dash to get the heater radiator out as it was leaking.
As i already had the dash out i also installed led lights in the instrument panel, installed all the dash etc etc.
A couple of nights later i realized the high beam light was way to bright, so off comes the steering wheel.
replaced some led's with originals, replaced steering wheel and airbag.
The next thing i saw was the dreaded flashing airbag light..very annoying,as everything was lined up and not touched ie , wheels straight, steering wheel straight. anyhow if it helps anyone i tried the above solutions and they did not work.
The only thing that worked for me was with the driver door opened
turn the key to accessories where everything lights up,
just as the airbag light goes out on a blink turn key to off > fast.
do this 5x in concession on the 6th go start the car and bingo light stays off.
