    ZD30 Injector Pump Question

    G,day Everyone,

    I have a 9/2000 GU Patrol ZD30 motor die about 3 weeks ago it has 140,000 km on the clock.

    I have brought another long engine fully rebuilt using a brand new later model Nissan engine block.

    I,m in the process of putting my parts on the new motor and was wondering if there is any need to have the injector pump checked or serviced before I refit it to the new motor?

    I have already had the injectors themselves serviced and are good to go.

    The engine was running fine before the thing died and was hoping to refit it as is to save a bit of ca$h as the piggy bank is getting a good old workout and there is a few other things that i still need to get before I can put the motor back in, as well as the gear to do all the mods to the engine that I've been reading about on the site.

    Having said that I'm happy to get it looked at if it really needs to be but I need to try and get it back on the road asap. The boss (wife) is starting to ask too many questions


    Any advice is very much appreciated.

    Ultimately the best answer is yes, at least get it tested.
    You could refit it as is and it would probably be fine, but if it's not.................

    Injector pumps can cost anywhere from $1000 to about $2500 to get serviced, the average price (I've found) is about $1500 if any of the shaft bushings have to be replaced or repaired.

    Give your local diesel injection shop a call and ask for a strip and quote price, then you'll have a better idea what you'll be up for.

    mate how did ya go ?? send it to sydney deisel they will sort it out

    the achiles heal of the zd30 is the pump, when they fail they run engine lean and it o-heats the cyls burning the pistons or rings,
    some here may even had an zd30 go on them during an cly head replacement.
    the problem is when the ecu detects that the engine has more throdle responce from the TPS switch,more incomming air from the MAF sensor and then the o2 sensors tells it of the lack of oxygen it tries to pump more fuel and boosts the turbo,but injector pump is running lean and the ecu dont know this tries to put more fuel in thus making it a whole lot worse all of a sudden boost is constant 15 pounds and engine running hot from leaning out ,burns the rings,pistons and /or oheats and then missdiagnosed as an blown headgasket!!
    so to answer ur question mate send it and get it tested along with the injectors.

    Glenn how long have you had the gu . how often did you change your fuel filter . did you buy your fuel from a reputable service station . did you
    keep your main fuel tank reasonably full. ??? Something to consider . jmo.

    albi, are you aware of how diesel engines work? a leaning of fuel will not cause excessive heat in a diesel like it does in petrol engines. In fact, its the exact opposite to a petrol. overfuelling in a diesel will cause high cyl. heat
