    Water tank cargo barrier GQ

    Hi Folks,

It’s time for a water storage solution for the Gq.

For me it has to be behind the cargo barrier and for the life of me I can’t find a tank that is tapered for the cargo barrier but also can sit in that dip footwell 100mm deep and come up on the sides without a custom SS tank.

I’ve seen a lot of people use this Boab one and just build a false floor in the dip footwell thing which I think is my only option.

Before I head down this path, does anyone have other options or ideas or other tank suggestions?

This is 50L Boab which will sit nicely behind barrier but need to build false floor.

As a drop in solution I think thats pretty good. Just make sure the tank filler has a little breather, can be a mm or 2 in size ( you could go as small as a plastic garden spray fitting for example - I use a 3mm lin with an air fitting into a socket port in the top of the tank) so when the water is drawn out it wont suck the tank in, and as mentioned also, go for a smallish tap opening. I have discharge hoses going to both sides and they have a chain to keep the tap upright and also at least equal to the water level - very easy for a tap to be accidentally left open or get knocked and you lose the lot. If you go this way the hoses can be long enough for the kids to wash their hands outside of the car and you can also drape it into a pot for cooking- trim the length so it doesnt hit the ground.

There is/was a mob who did bladders that fit in the rear 1/4 guards. Can’t think of who it was though.

Bladders can have a residual smell about thm and taint the water - yes they can be manufactured from 'food grade materials' however still leech into the water. The tanks are usually Polyethylene or polypropylene and they are a closed cell format and dont contain volatiles.

I remember Rossco put a bladder in for our last Simpson trip and that was undrinkable, literally tasted like pool water lol

    Tank.png

This is the custom 31SS tank I had made in 1997, cost $1200 back then, fits exactly where you want it in a GQ, Andy has seen it and like it, no idea what it would cost today, suspect double

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) and or Stainless Steel
Thicker the quality better on HDPE
For some reason HDPE floats on water where other plasticooooy variants don’t, must have something to do with it
