ZD30 remove IP,, now what else could go wrong ?

    Zd30 2006
Hi everyone, had to replace injector pump, so aligned all timing marks, undid the allen key plug and used one of the fan bolts to lock the scissor gear.
Now while removing the 4 bolts on the IP sprocket/gear the engine turned a little. Now the TDC mark on the harmonic balancer is say 50mm past its coresponding mark [in the direction of normal rotation ]
Now here's the thing, I put a large socket on the crank and went to realigne the marks, it would only come back half way and stop, Tried back and forth, something is hitting on something. Very similar feeling as turning the engine over and getting valve interferance but its definatly not that as i have a spanner on the cams and they turn freely in both directions when it happens.
    Any ideas/help please.
    Thanks David

    Harmonic balance shaft delete kit

Honestly not sure on the ZDs... maybe you can only go clockwise on the balance shaft? It engages oilers/rods for corresponding cylinders??
Can you turn it forwards? Spin it another 120 or 180 or 360 or 720 degrees depending how it's timed to the crank/cams...

According to wikipedia the ZD30 have a gerotor (eccentric star) oil pump on one shaft - I would imagine it's this that is stopping you from going backwards.
Either dismantle, or as said, go forward on that balance shaft as much as need.

Thanks for the help, I was hesitant to start turning the engine too fr forwards as the zd30 is a "hunting engine" and TDC and CC marks only line up about 1 in 20 revolution,, along with cam timmings I was afraid of opening a can of worms
    Thanks David

RELIEF,,,,,,The mark on harmonic balancer was an extra mark [looked exactly like TDC mark ] and the yellow marks on scossor gear were actually DD marks.
So as it had turned much more than I thought ,the locking bolt was interfering with something as it turned. Although I thought the engine had to be turned back, it had to be turned forward.
Sure enough another TDC mark appeared and CC marks were where they are supposed to be.
Two lessons, !/ Dont be too quick to assume something.
2/ When removing IP set the marks up, work slowly, and dont let anything change possision.

A very relieved and thankfull David
