Reversing lights on caravan
Hi there
I have a new Jayco van that has reversing lights fitted now as standard. I would like to connect the patrol up for that. Jayco uses pin 2 for the reversing lights. I have already removed the rear seats and floor but not yet the side rear panel to access the towbar harness. After looking at the pictures on this site there does not appear to be any wire for the reverse wire. Has anybody else overcome this problem? I know that I can splice into the reverse wiring in the rear of the vehicle but being Canbus wiring would a relay be required as the caravan does have led lights fitted and would not have a very big load?
Thanks
David Scott

Seems your over thinking it mate. Its easier and quicker to just trace the supply from the reverse light itself.

That's what I would be doing as the towing harness does not include the reversing circuit but with the canbus system and ECU would it cause a fault as the load would increase and maybe the need for a relay? I was hoping someone else had solved this problem now that reversing lights are being fitted to new vans.

As you've said...I'd just be splicing into the tail lights with a relay.
You then obviously need a power source back there...
I can't imagine the current a relay draws would screw up a computer and I would think the computer would be there more likely to sense open circuit/blown bulbs.

Sounds like that's the way to go put in a relay and powering the reverse lights would be easy.

Hi there
For those that wish to connect up the reversing lights on a caravan or trailer to their Y61.
1. Nissan has a 6-pin wire loom and plug for connection to the towbar loom.
2. Tow bar loom also has a 6-pin plug but only 5 wires are attached.
3. The vacant slot in the towbar loom does not have the 6th pin but if you fit one and connect a wire and run to pin 2 (reverse) on the vehicle 12pin or 7pin the
reverse lights will then work on the caravan or trailer if they are fitted.
Hope that helps. Pictures are available on the site of fitting the towbar loom,
David

I just plumbed off the reverse light wire when I did mine. No issues. Dunno about this canbus thingo your talking about. Must be for late model Y61’s maybe.

Van reversing lights will almost certainly be LED these days so will draw little power. No real need for a relay - just connect direct to vehicle light circuit.
