TD42 1992 Auto to Manual Conversion - connect Reverse Lights using Auto Harness

Hi I have recently done an auto to manual conversion on my GQ and I am trying to get the reverse lights to work.

I have read a few posts about reusing the auto harness that runs through the engine.

I have tried all combinations of the wires but nothing seems to work. When testing the voltage through the wires I get a range between 2 and 12 and 16 volts depending on the combination.

Is there some other inhibitor switch of sorts it runs through?

Pictures of the auto harness, male connector and female connector in engine

Failing that any advice on how to get them to work off the manual box.

I'll have a look at the wiring diagram in my haynes tomorrow. for colours.

this is 12V/ Patrol or 24V/ Safari?
2 and 16 are odd numbers of volts...

    It's a 24V/ Safari

I have investigated further and in the light cluster there is a red and black wire running into the Reverse light and a black wire, the black wire also feeds into each of the lights (indicator and stop).

If I run a multimeter across the black wire in the cluster and the green wire from the auto harness I can get a 24V reading. I have then tried to connect the green wire to the to red and black to see if I can get the light to work but the V drops down to around 10 when I do that so not sure why that is happening.

    Cheers

Id assume you would just have to modify the wiring at the auto reverse light switch to suit the new manual switch. Everything else would remain the same.

Possibly a short in the cluster?? But I would expect that would blow fuses. If you connect the black straight to a battery negative, and the red-blk to positive, do you get light?

What kind of lights are we talking? Sealed LED unit or one with oldskool bulbs?

    Oldskool bulbs

    Further investigation today.

The actual wire that feeds the reverse lights is green/white from the main harness which then feeds into the red/black. So I have managed to bridge the green/white to the park light so that when I switch on the park lights I get the reverse lights working. So at least I know that reverse lights are all good.

What I am going to try and do is bridge the green/white to one of the wires on reverse switch and the other reverse switch wire to the ignition relay and see if I can get that to work.

    Cheers

All sorted now with the bridge to the green/white to one of the wires on reverse switch and the other reverse switch wire to the ignition relay

    Thanks for the inputs
