New spotlight harness issue gu patrol

    Hey there Nissan lovers….

I have just fitted my new set of spotties and the smart kings harness to my gu Patrol.
It’s was very easy to connect everything as it was a plug n play set up for H4 globes with a relay and fuse to the battery and a separate switch I ran to the dash..
I turned on my high beam and the new installed switch and everything worked perfectly but when I turned my head lights and high beams off also the switch from the relay off, everything turned off except for the new spot lights .. is this from power left in the relay or have I done something wrong?
Thank you in advance for any reply’s I receive 😀

All you really need to do is run the -ive from the spot light relay through the switch in the dash you installed. So when the switch is off, there is no earthing point for the relay to activate by. Or run a wire from an active wire from the high beams (when on) to pin 86, I think it is.
Sounds like you have the battery wire (constant power) on pin 86 instead.

Certain jurisdictions have rules about how much lights can be on and when... (ie, you can't have your 10 billion lumen LED bar on while driving highway)...I don't know if there's a controller in your setup, but that may have something to do with it.

If no controller, then it sounds like you've created a latching relay...
a relay by itself will never have "power left in it" - they're basically a switch, just instead of manually activating it, they're activated by electrickery (usually activated by a manual switch, but could be controlled by other circuits)
In this instance it would seem like the "other circuit" (headlights) has found a path through the relay solenoid...
