    0701 Fault Code

Had an issue with my 2005 3.0 DI Wagon yesterday.

Short 45km drive then parked for 1/2 an hour, went to start the vehicle, cranked over but would not fire. Checked all fuses, all good. Pumped the fuel primer - was firm after 2 pumps. Opened fuel filler cap just in case there was vapor lock - all good.

Tried to start it again - cranked but did not fire.

Disconnected the battery for a few minutes & tried again, still no fire.

By this time the battery was getting a little tired from cranking so called a mechanic I knew who was only a few blocks away. While waiting I disconnected the battery again, hoping it might help reset things. Mechanic turned up 10 mins later.

Tried to start it again - wouldn`t fire. Mechanic spayed some Start Ya B*rsted into it & it fired up, then idled like nothing was wrong.

Got in it to drive back home & the Engine light was on.

Got home & turned it off, then it started up straight away & the Engine light had gone out. Stop & started it a few times without any problems.

Checked for error codes & got a 0701 - Camshaft Position Sensor
(incorrect signal from the Injection Pump Control Unit)
Refer to Injection Pump Control Unit
Circuit malfunction, Injection Pump Control Unit.

Spent some time researching on the Net last night & no clear info on what the problem was.

Started it this morning a few times with no problems.

Will reset the codes today & check for air leaks in the fuel system as well as any electrical connection problems & take it for a few test runs.

Hoping the Guru`s on here might have some idea what the problem may be.

    TIA,
    VK.
